Frutiger's Iconic Typefaces
Adrian Frutiger designed over 30 typefaces, each one crafted with attention to readability and form. Here are three of his most notable works:
Univers
Released in 1957, Univers was a groundbreaking typeface that introduced a systematic naming system based on weight and width. It brought order and clarity to typeface classification and was widely adopted in corporate and transit systems.
Frutiger
Developed for signage at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, Frutiger is celebrated for its legibility from a distance. Its humanist design makes it a favorite for both print and digital interfaces. It strikes a perfect balance between function and form.
Avenir
Released in 1988, Avenir (meaning "future" in French) was Frutiger’s take on geometric sans-serif fonts. It combines modern proportions with a human touch, making it ideal for branding and editorial work. It's still widely used by major brands today.
